As opposed to last week’s rainy Sunday…I guess I was feeling a little bit nautical, a little bit pilot. I rolled up my favorite Seven grey skinny jeans with my Maxstudio pumps and put on my new Ali Ro navy coat over my Threads 4 Thought white T. The fun gold hardware on the coat became their own accessories and I just added the stacked H&M and World Market bracelets and the vintage aviators.

For the Février 2010 issue, Carine Roitfeld styles the girls in Dior shorty trenches, Miu Miu kitty prints and Louis Vuitton military style tweeds, with all of the fantasy, inspiration, sex appeal and I want to be her-ness you could want.

Perfect Match?

I can’t say that I have ever really been a fan of the perfect match when we are talking colors and clothes and shoes and handbags. Sure, I am all for the monochromatic grey or black or dark blue when the mood is right and the textures and patterns varied enough to carry interest, but the flaming fuchsia dress with the flaming fuchsia shoes, or the yellow-yellow hat, handbag and halter dress…I think you’re going to have to convince me.

I have seen some matchy-matchy creeping into 2010 and I think I’m going to have to keep you posted on whether or not I can be convinced, but I have a feeling it's all about the shoes. Carine's Little Black Shoes, 5 Ways

I may not need to spell out the fact that I kind of love Carine Roitfeld, I think it may become rather apparent, but I do. Besides being a study in Parisian chic and just all around style (with just the right amount of fabulousness), she too has her favorites and isn’t afraid to wear them out and often.

She shows us how these black tie-up Alaia sandals go from a statement black contrast to her thigh-high slit white dress, to a slightly unexpected accent with a more casual look or take on more of a supporting role, paired with sheer black tights, to her leopard print asymmetrical blouse-pancho-scarf dress.

5. Faux Fur and Skinnies

I hadn’t put on my black, ripped knee Earnest Sewn skinny jeans in a long time, so I started with those. I put on my brown Stuart Weitzman heeled sandals and a pair of brown nylon socks and cuffed up the jeans. The dress served as a long top and the faux fur vest (that can be called old, but too young to be vintage) balanced out the top half of the silhouette. I cinched the waist with my cool coin-studded Furla belt and stacked up the bracelets (H&M, World Market). I put on my favorite accessory of the last couple months, my grandfather’s pocket watch chain worn as a necklace and my mechanical watch ring that I got as a bday gift.

4. Willing Spring

For a rainy Sunday afternoon, I thought a little wishful thinking was in order. The black sweater dress gets a premature dose of spring with this Barney’s Co-op floral, A-line skirt while staying winter-y with black socks and Nine West heeled oxfords. The pendant necklace is from H&M and the mechanical watch ring and Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet clutch were both gifts from my last bday. The umbrella, necessary.

3. Because Wearing a Jean Trench is Fun

Loosely belting my vintage denim trench over the LBD and adding a splash of leopard print (I mean really, you can’t go wrong with a little leopard print) was the perfect way to work it back into the mix. My go-to chunky H&M bracelet gave a little shine and the semi-sheer tights paired with the brown Stuart Weitzman T-strap sandals finished off the look. Fun.

2. A Little Bit 80's

I am in love my Kenneth Cole over-the-knee boots, and paired with the hiked up hemline of the dress, things turned sexy pretty quickly. The white Banana Republic blazer with pushed up sleeves turned things a little 80’s and the sparkly bracelets and necklace, both random costume jewelry, turned things, well, a little sparkly.

1. Ah, Italian Vintage

Hidden somewhere along the cobblestone streets of Florence was a great little vintage store…ask me where it is and I couldn’t tell you, but that is where I found this gem of a vintage Luisa coat, perfectly textured, rich shades of green and faux fur accents, perfetto, grazie! The heavy knit tights and oxfords complimented the coat and I added the mosaic fish necklace for interest.The brown leather belt is Barney’s Co-op and the studded wooden bracelet is from an import market.

Barney's Co-op sweater dress

One short, long-sleeved, little black sweater dress, some closet shopping and a dose of rethinking, all mixed with some temperamental February weather and it’s my own little self-imposed fashion challenge. Without any recessional motivations, just purely fashionably indulgent ones, I will style my winter-y LBD with the new, not-so-new, vintage, forgotten, high, low, re-discovered and random pieces from my closet.
